If your gutters are doing any of this, they're not doing their job.

Gutters fail quietly, and the damage shows up somewhere else, rotted fascia, stained siding, a damp crawlspace. Here is what to look for after the next heavy rain.

  • Water pouring over the front edge instead of into the downspout
  • Gutters sagging, pulling away from the fascia, or visibly out of level
  • Rust, split seams, or standing water that never drains
  • Peeling paint, soft wood, or rot along the eaves and fascia
  • Pooling at the foundation, washed-out mulch, or a wet basement wall
  • Gutters that are older than your roof, or were skipped when it was replaced

  • Google reviewerRoof + 6-inch gutters
“The team putting the new gutters on was also excellent. They addressed some issues we were having with the old smaller 4-inch gutters overflowing… Going with the bigger 6-inch gutters and downspouts was a big help, especially with the heavy rains we get now. They also move the water further away from the home's foundation.”
  • Kathy B.Returning customer
“I had used Chief Roofing in the past and was very pleased, so 20+ years later we used them again. They showed up when they said every time, were in the same ballpark as other estimates, cleanup was excellent, and we are very happy with the outcome.”
  • Denise M.Estimate + replacement
“We were thrilled with the help we received. After seven estimates, we found the people who really explained what was going on and also had the best price and long-term solution.”
  • Chuck L.Roof replacement
“Everything happened as promised, schedule, specified materials, workmanship, and cleanup. Jerry (job foreman) was always on top of things, always available and very responsive.”
  • A. NickersonRoof installation
“Chief Roofing installed my roof about 7 years ago. They were very professional, and they did an awesome job. When they finished, they cleaned up so good that you couldn't tell they had been here, except for the new roof.”
  • Jeff S.Storm damage · insurance claim
“After the wind damage right before Christmas, I had Chief Roofing come out to inspect the damage. We ended up filing through insurance… They did the whole thing in one day, were on time and cleaned up after. They did a great job. Would recommend!”

Gutter questions, answered straight

Straight answers before we ever come out. Anything else, call (919) 732-5028.

5-inch or 6-inch gutters, which do I need?

It depends on your roof area, pitch, and how the roof drains. Many Triangle homes with larger or steeper roofs overflow 5-inch gutters in our summer storms; 6-inch gutters with 3×4 downspouts carry considerably more water and clog less. We measure your roof and recommend a size, you decide.

Can you install gutters I already bought?

Typically no. We supply the gutter materials for every job because we cannot guarantee the fit, quality, or compatibility of third-party products, and supplying them lets us stand behind the whole system with our warranty. You choose the profile and color; we take care of the rest.

Do you replace rotted fascia behind the old gutters?

Yes. We inspect the fascia when we measure and again when the old gutters come down. Any soft or rotted boards are replaced and new drip edge installed before the new gutters go up, so they hang on solid wood.

Should I add gutter guards?

If your home is under oaks or pines, guards pay for themselves in ladder trips avoided. We install guards that fit the gutter profile and can be removed for service; we will tell you honestly if your roof does not need them.

Can gutters be installed with a new roof?

Yes, and it is the best time to do it, one crew, one schedule, and the drip edge and gutters are set to work together. Gutters can also be replaced on their own without touching the roof.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the number of runs and any fascia repair. We confirm the schedule and duration with your written estimate and call before we arrive.
